Post Ike...still NO POWER : (

Well we survived the storm unscathed. A lot of our neighbors weren't so lucky. Many of them had several trees fall on their houses and put gaping holes in their roof tops. There were so many huge trees taken down by Ike that it caused mass destruction to the area power lines. It has now been almost 2 weeks without power. Ugh! We have seen convoys of electricians working to restore the power the past couple of days so hopefully today or tomorrow we will be back up and running. Luckily, we got a generator so we have been able to keep our fridge going plus some fans and every now and then we'll plug in the computer/tv! The past 2 days have been much better b/c our friends, Terrie & Jeramy, were so wonderful to let us borrow their generator, window a/c unit, & more fans!!! Then we were able to pass our generator to our neighbors so they could survive a little easier. Terrie & Jeramy got power back earlier this week so I was able to go wash some clothes (we had to go by new underwear b/c we were running out of clean ones!) and spend some time in a nice cool house. It has been hard on Hudson b/c he hasn't been able to sleep upstairs in his bed since its too hot and he is all out of his normal routine. However, we are very thankful that our house did not receive any damage and hopefully we will have electricity soon! I miss the microwave!!

Waiting for Ike to arrive

The past couple of days we've been busy fighting the crowds of people and searching from store to store to gather all of our hurricane supplies. I think we are as ready as can be. It will be our first true hurricane. After the horrible experience with Hurricane Rita, we decided not to try plowing through the mass evacuation traffic to leave. So as Jason would say, "We're "hunkerin' down"!".

Here are the boys sitting on the front porch waiting for the storm to roll in.

Here is Hudson saying "Hi!" from Jeff's golf cart.

This is today (Friday) around 1pm. It's a typical slightly overcast hot day. No wind. Yet, Galveston, is already underwater just from the storm surge. Only a couple houses up here have actually boarded up their windows. We don't have too many big trees close to us to worry about. We have a few pines but hopefully they'll stay put!

This is around 5:30pm. We are just starting to get a few good gusts but for the most part its still pretty calm. The worst is supposed to hit us in the middle of the night. I'm not much of a night owl so Jason has the night watch. All of the neighbors are hanging out on their front porches or cruising around in their carts watching the storm blow in.

***oops! having a hard time getting this video to upload-I'll keep trying!***

It's about 9pm now and Jason just went for a cruise around the 'hood to see what's happening out there. As long as we have power I will continue to post updates and pictures. I'm pretty sure we will be out of power for a while though according to the predictions. : ( Looks like we'll be having some smelly game nights together!

It's fall!

Since fall has arrived and it has been cooler in the mornings, we have been able to start going to the parks again! Hudson LOVES going to the parks!! As soon as I get him out of his bed in the morning he starts asking me to take him to the park. It has become a great bribing tool too!
